On the evening of September 27, a reception for foreign experts of celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (the PRC) was held in the Great Hall of the People. Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice-Premier of the State Council, Mr. Han Zheng, attended and addressed the reception which is held every five years. The reception coincided with the 70th anniversary of the founding of the PRC, to which foreign experts who have won the “Friendship Award” of the Chinese government and who have made outstanding contributions to China’s economy, science, technology, education, culture and other fields were invited. Professor Proshanto K. Mukherjee, a foreign expert of DMU, was invited to attend the reception. This is the first time for foreign experts of DMU to attend the National Day reception for foreign experts.
On behalf of the Chinese government and President Xi Jinping, Mr. Han Zheng expressed sincere thanks and greetings to all the foreign experts and friends who have shown interest in, supported and participated in China’s reform and opening-up and modernization construction. Mr. Han Zheng said that since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, especially over the past four decades since the reform and opening-up, the Communist Party of China has united and led the people of all ethnic groups in overcoming all difficulties and working hard to successfully embark on a socialist path with Chinese characteristics and achieve a tremendous transformation from standing up, growing rich to becoming strong. Over the past 70 years, a large number of foreign experts have come to China to join the Chinese people in the cause of modernization and made indelible contributions that Chinese people will never forget. Mr. Han Zheng pointed out that China would firmly implement a more active, more open and more effective policy on talent introduction, sincerely welcome more and more foreign experts to come to China for innovation and entrepreneurship, and welcome talents from all over the world to participate in China’s modernization process.
Professor Mukherjee was the former Vice-President of World Maritime University. He has been working on maritime law for many years and is an international expert in this field. He was appointed as visiting professor of DMU in 2010. In 2013, he worked in DMU with the financial support for foreign experts, mainly engaged in teaching and research in the field of maritime law. With his unremitting efforts, the reform in maritime law teaching has been steadily promoted and the strength of the subject has been significantly improved. He has cultivated a group of professionals with the international vision and research ability. For his outstanding contributions to the teaching and research of Chinese maritime law, talent training and international exchanges, he has been awarded the “Xinghai Friendship Award” in 2015 and the “Liaoning Friendship Award” in 2017.
