From September 29th to 30th, the 7th International Systems Radiation Biology Workshop was held in DMU. Influential experts in this field from 25 universities and institutes attended the workshop, which includes the National Cancer Institute, University of California, San Francisco, University of Nevada, Moffitt Cancer Center, Columbia University, Emory university, Indiana University, Loma Linda University, Oxford Brookes University, The European Space Agency, Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR), University of Duisburg-Essen, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), National Institute of Radiological Science, Gunma University, Technology and Engineering Center for Space Utilization, Chinese Academy of Sciences, School for Radiological&Interdisciplinary Sciences, Soochow University, National Space Science Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Military Medical, ASIPP, Beijing Institute of Technology, Institute of Systematic Genetics, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Anhui University and so on.
Wang Xiaoyong, Vice-President of DMU, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Sun Yeqing from the Institute of Environmental System Biology at DMU.
First of all, Wang Xiaoyong welcomed the experts and scholars on behalf of DMU and thanked the Space Engineering and Technology Center for its support in the field of life science research. He briefly introduced DMU, as well as the achievements we have made in maritime education and ocean-related subject construction. He said that in recent years, DMU attached great importance to the construction of interdisciplinary subjects. The Institute of Environmental System Biology, which hosted the conference, is a typical representative. After more than ten years of development, the institute has made remarkable achievements and has been unanimously recognized by peers at home and abroad. In the future, DMU will continue to promote interdisciplinary construction and expand international exchanges and cooperation.
The first six workshops were held in Europe, the United States and Japan respectively, and it is the first time for the workshop to be held in China. The topic of this workshop is “Space Radiation System Biological Cross-Scientific Research and Radiation Protection Medicine”, which is jointly sponsored by Dalian Maritime University and Technology and Engineering Center for Space Utilization, and hosted by the Institute of Environmental System Biology of DMU. This workshop has set up three frontier exploratory guest reports and ten guest theme reports. During the two days and with the space radiation quality cause analysis technology, the participants has discussed and talked about space radiation genetics and epigenetics research, space radiation assessment and individual sensitivity screening techniques and space radiation medical injury and protection and so on.
